Ingenium 2.0 diesel codes

A 1,999 cc four-cylinder diesel used across Land Rover and Jaguar. The last letter on the stamp matters more than the word Ingenium.

Jaguar Land Rover’s in-house Ingenium diesel four is a 1,999 cc inline-four (later mild-hybrid units are often 1,997 cc). Breakers title almost everything “Ingenium 2.0”. Buy on the stamped 204DT* suffix, fuel, output and layout — not a catalogue family name. For petrol fours and the 3.0 six, start with the Ingenium family overview.

Typical single-turbo outputs are 150–180 hp (110–132 kW) and 380–430 Nm. Twin-turbo SD4 / D240 is around 240 hp. It is Euro 6, common-rail, chain-driven, with an aluminium block and head. Many 204DTD engines use a Mitsubishi TD04 turbo. Compression on typical 204DTD units is 15.5:1. Bore and stroke are 83.0 mm × 92.35 mm.

150 hp is the D150 / eD4 tune — 110 kW, about 380 Nm. 180 hp is the D180 / TD4 tune — 132 kW, about 430 Nm. They share the block and head family. What changes is turbo, injectors and ECU calibration. You will not reliably tell them apart from a rocker-cover photo.

Breakers reuse the 204DT stem for several engines. The last letter is the one that saves you a wasted collection.

What this means on eBay

A title that only says “Ingenium 2.0 diesel” is not enough. Ask for a photograph of the stamp or label — often on or near the timing cover / cam cover area — and the unique engine number. Then match that number to the donor V5C.

Shortlist by layout first: transverse compact SUV to transverse compact SUV, longitudinal to longitudinal. Then match the suffix (204DTD vs 204DTA vs 204DTY), fuel and output. Twin-turbo, mild-hybrid and petrol units are not a planned conversion unless a specialist is doing that job on purpose.
