Which cars use Ingenium engines — and which units will not drop in
A matching family name is the start of the conversation. Orientation, fuel, FWD vs AWD and year decide whether a used unit is even a candidate.
Nothing on this page is a guarantee of fitment. Always check the donor VIN and engine number with the seller, then with the person fitting it.
Compact SUVs (Discovery Sport, Evoque, E-Pace) sit the four-cylinder engine transverse. Jaguars XE/XF/F-Pace, Velar, Discovery 5, Defender and Range Rover Sport sit it longitudinal. Petrol and diesel 2.0s are not interchangeable. A 3.0 six is not a 2.0 four.

How to shortlist a donor
- Same model first (Evoque to Evoque, XF to XF, Defender to Defender).
- Next, the same layout family: other transverse compact SUVs together; other north–south cars together.
- Match fuel, output and whether the car is mild-hybrid.
- Do not cross 2.0 four and 3.0 six, or diesel and petrol.
