Discovery Sport 2015–2017: the first Ingenium years
What changed when Land Rover put the Ingenium 2.0 diesel in the Discovery Sport, and why early cars need extra timing-chain caution.
Discovery Sport production started with the Ford 2.2 diesel. The Ingenium 2.0 diesel arrives in 2015 as eD4 150 hp and TD4 150/180 hp, often stamped 204DTD. If a listing says “2015 Disco Sport engine” without capacity, ask whether it is 2.0 or 2.2. 224DT is a different engine.
These first Ingenium years are the ones independent specialists mention most for timing-chain stretch and cold-start rattle. That does not mean every 2016 engine is scrap. It does mean a used unit from this band should get a chain, guides and tensioner before it goes in. Gearbox-out chain jobs on the old engine are how many of these cars died in the first place.
SD4 240 hp from 2017 is 204DTA twin-turbo. Do not buy it for a 150/180 hp car. Details: 2.0 diesel codes, timing chain and faults.
Kits we would actually order for a 2.0 diesel: Schaeffler INA 559 1793 20 or Febi 194091 for the chain, and LR140581 for a single turbo. Confirm the box against your engine number. Affiliate disclosure — tracking IDs are still placeholders.
