Range Rover Evoque: buying a used Ingenium 2.0 diesel
L538 vs L551, FWD vs AWD, and what to check before you buy a used 2.0 diesel for a Range Rover Evoque.
Range Rover Evoque L538 picked up the Ingenium 2.0 diesel from 2015 (earlier cars are Ford 2.2, code 224DT). L551 from 2019 is Ingenium-only. Both generations sit the engine transverse, in the compact-SUV layout family with E-Pace.
Other transverse 2.0 diesels can be candidates when a same-model donor is scarce. They are still not an automatic drop-in. Mounts, wiring, sump, crank sensor position and gearbox can differ by year. Confirm the stamped code, the unique engine number, and whether the Evoque was FWD or AWD.
L551 D150/D180 may be closer to other facelift compact SUVs than an early L538 is. Later Evoque diesels can be MHEV (often 204DTY / D165 / D200). Those are the wrong complete-engine package for an earlier non-hybrid 204DTD.
Read the fitment table and run the checker with model set to Evoque.
Kits we would actually order for a 2.0 diesel: Schaeffler INA 559 1793 20 or Febi 194091 for the chain, and LR140581 for a single turbo. Confirm the box against your engine number. Affiliate disclosure — tracking IDs are still placeholders.
